The primary goal of this project is to find an optimal combination and dispatch schedule of several solutions to address the frequency problem caused by increasing wind integration. High wind penetration brings additional uncertainty and variability to modern power system, which needs additional operating flexibility on several time scales to keep system frequency performance within relevant standards.
The influence of wind on system frequency response will be explored by constructing a model simulating the integration of wind to a power system at first. Then, several solutions will be studied from technical and economic aspects, such as storage, wind turbine control and increased operating reserve. Optimization model will be constructed to find an optimal combination and dispatch schedule of these solutions which can achieve the lowest integration cost of wind power.
